Theodore Pasquale (b. 1975, Jamestown, New York) is an American photographer who has lived in Taipei for fifteen years. He came to photography as a serious practice in midlife, drawn to the medium’s ability to hold contradictions without forcing them to resolve.

His work examines the intersection of family, place, obligation, and geopolitics, and is drawn to circumstances in which the largest forces in a person’s life press into the smallest. Combining staged scenarios with archival material, the photographs are made in Taiwan and the United States, between two places his life keeps trying to bridge.

When Will You Return (何日君再來), his first major body of work, was developed over the 2025-26 Annual FotoFilmic Mentoring Program under Stacy Kranitz, Elisa Medde, and Christian Patterson. In 2026, the project received both the Jury Prize and the Youth Perspective Award at Lightbox Photo Library’s New Wave Photography Awards in Taipei. The jury cited the work for transforming “yearning, displacement, and historical memory into images with dramatic tension.”

The work has been exhibited at FOTOFILMIC Space on Bowen Island, British Columbia, the Griffin Museum of Photography’s online gallery, and will be shown again in Paris with FOTOFILMIC in November 2026. He was shortlisted for the Athens Photo Festival and will participate in Review Santa Fe in October 2026. He is currently developing the work as a photobook through the Hido Photo Book Library Workshop in Oakland, Reminders Photography Stronghold in Tokyo, and the upcoming 2026-27 FotoFilmic Book Program.
